Even if that were true, it is unwise to treat all vociferous critics as if they had the same goals. That is a surefire way to lose those who can be convinced to tone down their rhetoric and take a more balanced approach to a conflict in which neither side is blameless.

The "left" he describes was still dominated by the authoritarian left (Soviets, Cubans) but the sentiments he identifies, and the thorough demonization of all things Israeli, are painfully familiar. If my camp's sentiments and ideas are mercilessly bashed by both the Jewish right and the far left, it is a good sign that the sentiments are justifiable and the ideas have merit.
