Buy Cheap Viagra

Buy cheap viagra, At long last, the urgently-needed "J Street" project has been officially launched. It has generated a great deal of media attention, much of it positive, viagra prescription, but the most important story by far was in yesterday's Washington Post:

Some of the country's most prominent Jewish liberals are forming a political action committee and lobbying group aimed at dislodging what they consider the excessive hold of neoconservatives and evangelical Christians on U.S. Lowest price viagra, policy toward Israel.

The group is planning to channel political contributions to favored candidates in perhaps a half-dozen campaigns this fall, the first time an organization focused on Israel has tried to play such a direct role in the political process, ordering viagra online legally, according to its organizers. Comprare viagra sconto, Organizers said they hope those efforts, coupled with a separate lobbying group that will focus on promoting an Arab-Israeli peace settlement, will fill a void left by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, Køb discount viagra, or AIPAC, Cheapest viagra prices, and other Jewish groups that they contend have tilted to the right in recent years.

The fact that it passed the Post's litmus test as a real story will prod the political elite to take notice, even before it accomplishes anything concrete. Of course, the fact that it is backed by some prominent Democratic donors and fundraisers is even more important, buy cheap viagra.

I am forced to restrain myself from writing too much on this initiative, buy cheap viagra. That is mostly because I am writing a book on the domestic political context of American Middle East policy, αγοράζουν online viagra, and I don't want to give away too much of what I've discovered in advance. Even if I wanted to, my publisher, ordering viagra without prescription, Potomac Books, Hawaii HI , wouldn't let me. But I have been observing the various phases J Street has gone through and know something about the attendant birth pains. Buy cheap viagra, Jeremy Ben-Ami (its executive director). Daniel Levy (the tireless Israeli peace promoter) and others who have worked so hard to make this happen deserve not just acclaim, viagra for sale, but gratitude from everyone who see no contradiction between being pro-Israeli, Viagra no prescription, pro-Palestinian and pro-American.

Gershom Gorenberg, the gifted Israeli writer, viagra online kaufen, succinctly sums up why J Street is important:

Reading the front page of my Hebrew paper last weekend, Georgia GA Ga. , I tried to imagine an American senator saying something like, "I have great respect for the Israel Defense Forces. But eventually Israel will have to leave the West Bank, viagra pedido en línea. In its heart, Oklahoma OK Okla. , the Israeli nation has already decided. The Israeli army should not create a rift with Palestinians that haunts us for generations, buy cheap viagra. Think of Palestinians stripped at the checkpoints only because there might be terrorists among them. Think of those who stand for hours at checkpoints because we fear that a booby-trapped car could pass through."

I didn't have to make up that speech from scratch, comprar viagra de descuento, because I was reading about Ehud Olmert saying words very similar to a forum of IDF commanders in the West Bank. Buy cheap viagra online, The prime minister could say that despite their short-term security benefits, West Bank checkpoints have long-term moral and strategic costs for Israel. How many pro-Israel members of Congress fear that if they voiced the same concerns, South Dakota SD , AIPAC would soon be encouraging donations to their next primary opponent.

One of the most daunting challenges facing the American Jewish peace camp is that it is very difficult to give supporters concrete and useful things to do, Um viagra online, other than write a check to organizations within that peace camp, or support activists in Israel, or sign petitions and letters about legislation and other Beltway business, order viagra from canada. Buy cheap viagra, J Street is something else, something new. In addition to wandering around your search engine and reading all about it, Köpa viagra, please please please make sure to go to its web site and help it succeed.

Kevin, MM, cheapest viagra in the world, John Sinclair, Delaware DE Del. , and all of the other contributors who have never met a Zionist you could tolerate, I don't want you to feel excluded. Please tell us if you think this initiative is misguided, ordering viagra overnight delivery. And if you believe it is, please suggest another political path, another way to get from A [the intolerable status quo] to B [an end to Palestinian suffering].

Cheap Viagra From India

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Cheap viagra from india, Aaron David Miller has a stirring piece in the LA Times that deserves to be quoted in full.

A note on my headline:"geshray" is Yiddish for "wail." Other than that, believe it or not (is everyone sitting down. Get ready...), I have nothing to add, buy viagra. Nothing more needs to be said, as far as I'm concerned. Anyone disagree.

The Israel litmus test

Why do so many American Jews demand unwavering commitment to Israel from their politicians, cheap viagra from india. Cheap viagra online, By Aaron David Miller
March 9, 2008

'You're nothing but a self-hating Jew, and your boss is an anti-Semite." It was the spring of 1990. I was an advisor to then-Secretary of State James Baker, and I was briefing a Jewish group from Atlanta -- and I couldn't believe what I was hearing, ordering viagra pills. Baker was tough on Israel when he needed to be, but he was no anti-Semite. I told Mr. Cheap viagra from india, Atlanta that if he wanted to argue about policy, fine; otherwise, we should keep the ad hominem out of it. Ordering viagra no prescription, Almost 20 years later, here we go again. This time, a Democratic candidate for president, not even the official nominee of his party, comprar en línea viagra, is under attack from some deeply confused and ill-informed American Jews. Again, the charges of hostility toward Israel are being irresponsibly bandied about. Nevada NV Nev. , Some of this, to be sure, is the seasonal silliness associated with political campaigns. But the persistent attacks on Sen, cheap viagra from india. Barack Obama -- and especially on former Clinton administration official Robert Malley, one of his many informal advisors -- shouldn't be casually dismissed as crackpot commentary, buy viagra cheap. They reflect two troubling reactions, or, more precisely, αγοράσετε viagra, overreactions, within the American Jewish community that undermine its credibility and harm American interests in the process.

First, some full disclosure. I'm not associated with any political campaign and am not running for anything, order viagra overnight delivery. Cheap viagra from india, For nearly 20 years, I worked at the Department of State, under Republican and Democratic secretaries of State, on the Arab-Israeli peace negotiations.

What's more, I am a close friend of Malley, who served as special assistant to President Clinton for Arab-Israeli affairs between 1998 and 2001. Purchase viagra, Malley and I continue to collaborate on Op-Ed articles and conferences.

In recent weeks, I've been extremely disturbed to see him attacked as an enemy of Israel and as an apologist for the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. Perhaps most offensive, several publications have run personal attacks on Malley because his father, order viagra online without prescription, in the 1960s, founded and edited a left-wing magazine called Afrique-Asie, which was friendly toward the Palestine Liberation Organization and other Third World movements.

But so what, cheap viagra from india. Buy viagra without prescription, These charges are ridiculous. There's no question that Malley has been critical of certain Israeli actions and behavior (as have I). He was criticized, for instance, for an article he wrote in the New York Review of Books that took issue with the notion that Arafat was solely responsible for the failure of the Oslo peace process, viagra sale. But he is not "anti-Israel," let alone the Israel hater his critics portray him to be. Cheap viagra from india, He is well-respected by Arabs and Israelis alike, and he believes deeply in the idea and the reality of Israel's right to exist as a sovereign and secure Jewish state. He would never do anything to jeopardize that. Kansas KS Kans. , In a joint letter last month, five of his longtime colleagues (former Clinton national security advisor Samuel R. Berger; former U.S. ambassadors to Israel Martin Indyk and Daniel Kurtzer; former U.S. peace negotiator Dennis Ross; and myself) made Malley's commitment to Israel unmistakably clear, cheap viagra from india. As for the mean-spirited guilt-by-association charges having to do with his family, Utah UT , Malley told the Forward, a Jewish newspaper, that while he loved and respected his father -- who died in 2006 -- he did not agree with him on everything. Acheter viagra bon marché, The attacks on Malley (which are, of course, really attacks on Obama) don't merely reflect concerns about the views of a single mid-level advisor; they flow from a deeper dysfunction. The first piece of that dysfunction is what you might call the "cosmic oy vey" -- the tendency of many American Jews active in pro-Israeli causes to worry about everything, without a capacity to identify what is important and what isn't, Køb billige viagra.

Don't get me wrong. Cheap viagra from india, Jews -- and yes, I am one of them -- worry for a living. Their history compels them to and to be always vigilant. Yet in America, För viagra online, where they have achieved a level of security, acceptance and power unparalleled in their history, their existential worries paradoxically seem to have grown even greater. When Jimmy Carter writes a book -- a bad book, incidentally -- comparing Zionism to apartheid, kjøpe viagra online, many American Jews go crazy. When two university professors, Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer, New Mexico NM N.Mex. , write another bad book -- about what they call "the Israel lobby" -- many Jews react as if the sky is falling.

The fact is (and many American Jews are reluctant to accept it), the conflict in the United States between Israel's supporters and its detractors is over, cheap viagra from india. And the pro-Israel community has won. No figure in American mainstream politics can be viable without being firmly supportive of Israel. Americans overwhelmingly back Israel's right to exist safely and securely as a Jewish state. For reasons of shared values, buy viagra cod, as well as strong domestic political support, Israel has become an organic part of American culture, religion, North Carolina NC N.C. , politics and foreign policy for Jews and non-Jews alike. Cheap viagra from india, Our most recent presidents, Clinton and George W. Bush, have been the most pro-Israel presidents -- ever.

For too many American Jews, these successes haven't created a greater sense of security; they have only persuaded them to keep up the fight to ensure their good fortune continues, αγοράζουν φτηνά viagra. Too often this means stigmatizing people who criticize, or even question, particular Israeli policies as detrimental to U.S. Order viagra cod, interests or to the peace process or to Israel's security itself. There is a strong tendency even in parts of the mainstream American Jewish community to interpret any such questioning -- of the type that occurs every day in Israel itself -- as outright hostility, cheap viagra from india.

I've lost count of the number of times Jewish activists or friends have said to me that this official or that journalist or this academic must be anti-Semitic. On other occasions, I have been told that I myself should not to be so publicly critical of Israel, lest we give our enemies grist for their propaganda mills, viagra online cheap.

This "us versus them" mentality still runs deep, and it is particularly harmful when it comes to the Arab-Israeli issue. That conflict is not some kind of morality play in which the forces of evil do battle against the forces of light. Cheap viagra from india, It is a conflict in which both sides have legitimate needs and requirements and do both good and bad things in pursuit of them.

To be called an Israel hater for speaking out against Israeli actions when they are wrong and counterproductive -- actions such as building settlements and bypass roads or confiscating land -- or to be called an anti-Semite for suggesting alternative ways of thinking when the status quo is leading nowhere is not only absurd, it's dangerous.

In the end, American Jews who impose a litmus test of boundless commitment to every single Israeli action hurt not only their community but the United States as well. Israel is a tiny country living in a dangerous neighborhood. The U.S. and Israel need a special relationship based on confidence and trust to further their mutual interests -- but that does not mean we need an exclusive relationship in which America acquiesces to everything that Israel or its supporters in the United States think is wise. This is a critical distinction. One can only hope that, next time around, we are fortunate enough to get a president and Middle East advisors who understand it.

Aaron David Miller, who served at the State Department as an advisor to six secretaries of State, is a scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center and the author of the forthcoming "The Much Too Promised Land: America's Elusive Search for Arab/Israeli Peace."

Ordering Viagra Online Without Prescription

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Ordering viagra online without prescription, It is hard to convey the amount of bile and reductionist, blame-the-Jews-for-every-sin rhetoric that has taken over much of the blogosphere. Phil Weiss's blog generally attracts some of the most articulate Jew-bashers, so I tune into the comments from time to time in order to gauge the level of hatred.

I just noticed some great comments by "Teddy," one of our most valued contributors whose only fault is that he is smarter and generally more articulate than I am, Osta viagra. I hereby award him the first "Fleshie," which will be bestowed periodically on the best response to anti-Semitism or ignorant anti-Israelism on the Web. He veers farther to the left than I would, Cheap viagra without prescription, but this is the kind of respondent who has a chance to get the attention of the people who are reading these blogs and still trying to make up their minds about whether to hold the Jews responsible for the world's problems...Stay with this. It is a bit scary in places, ordering viagra online without prescription. And Teddy's initial response refers to an earlier comment and requires some patience. But, in the end, he richly deserves his Fleshie:

1-{The original provocation by "Cogit 8}"Phil, order viagra online, after observing how 'your people' operate for lo a half century, I rather doubt that anything close to a candid discussion about The Jews (or their lobby) will ever occur. The Russerts and Wolf Blitzers are drooling in wait for Obama, Cheapest viagra, who hasn't inspired much hope to the majority of Americans who want us out of Iraq.

What will happen instead is that Hillary will demagogue the issue into one of "Do you support our little ally Israel, or don't you. Ordering viagra online without prescription, Pulling out of Iraq will leave poor little Israel all alone, etc etc etc."

If you want a foretaste of the sophistry to come, merely observe how the recent killing of 120 Palestinians by a sophisticated war-machine has not produced even a ripple of empathy in America, whereas the death of one Jew by a crudely made rocket is trumpeted about the mother-land. Proof indeed of The Jewing of America - because most of 'your people' really don't give a rip about other human life."

2-{Teddy's response}: "most of 'your people' really don't give a rip about other human life."

What follows is an excerpt from a comment that closed off a thread a few days ago. I wrote it in response to a predictable claim from MM that Zionism was NOTHING except colonialism and racism, online viagra, nothing else. I include the first part so you will understand the context of my concluding comment. Some of you are unwittingly doing a wonderful job of promoting Zionism and confirming the suspicions of the most paranoid Jews:
------------------------
MM, Connecticut CT Conn. , And there was nothing else to Zionism. No other reason for it, ordering viagra online without prescription. Just colonialism and imperialism. No pogroms and raw discrimination that made Eastern and Central European Jew believe assimilation was impossible. No desparation in the 1930s and '40s because the gates of the world were closed (and don't give me the infernal, conspiratorial line that somehow the Zionists caused the Holocaust or were glad that it happened, cheap viagra, which I used to read all the time on Phil's blog)?...

That said, many of the Zionist pioneers were racist, Viagra without prescription, and orientalist, and the entire saga does not resemble the golden myths American Jews learned in their childhood about the founding of Israel. Ordering viagra online without prescription, But let me tell ya, MM and all your compadres, much of the bile on this blog is reminiscent of the attitudes that convinced Jews in the late 19th century that Zionism was the only solution available to them.

So keep it up, as someone else wrote awhile ago. You're doing AIPAC's work for it, Rabatt kaufen viagra.

Posted by: Teddy | March 06, 2008 at 12:19 PM

3-{Another county heard from}: Even if one accepts everything Teddy says about the pogroms Jews faced in Europe -- what does that have to do with the U.S..

Like the Palestinians, Buy viagra overnight delivery, Americans wonder why we have to pay and pay and pay for sins committed by Europeans decades ago. We even have to pay $35 million a year for the Holocaust Museum, to explain what one group of Europeans did to another group of Europeans, ordering viagra online without prescription. Why.

Now there IS a zionist state, which enjoys a southern European standard of living. So WHY, ordering viagra pills, again, is the U.S. obliged to spend billions a year, Billige viagra apotek, and distort its entire foreign policy -- in perpetuity -- to help this exclusively Jewish project along. Ordering viagra online without prescription, Is this like Catholic indulgences or carbon credits, where paying $5 billion a year will earn us "philosemitic credits" and expiate our eternal liberal guilt. It takes a lot of chutzpah to think that the Shoah can continue to milked for this purpose, in the seventh decade after it happened.

Give it a rest, man, Køb billige viagra. Find a new hustle that actually adds some value to peoples' lives, rather than just shaking them down and denouncing them as antisemites if they dare to object to having their pockets picked. Some of us are getting rather tired of being abused, Billiga viagra apotek, after generously contributing all our lives via income tax. Some gratitude, huh, ordering viagra online without prescription.

Posted by: Jim Haygood | March 06, 2008 at 12:46 PM

4- {Teddy's response}You don't seem to get it, Jim. I wasn't defending all that the Zionists did or justifying blind U.S, comprar en línea viagra. support for Israel. I was pointing out that the rhetoric on this site, or some of it, Buy viagra, blames THE JOOS as a people for all sorts of nefarious crimes, and refuses to make a distinction between right wing Zionists and everyone else who calls himself or herself a Jew. Ordering viagra online without prescription, Anti-Zionism and blunt, angry criticism of Israel is not anti-Semitism. "Most of 'your people' don't really give a rip about human life' is anti-Semitic according to any reasonable definition of the word. If you and yours would denounce grotesque generalizations about the Jewish people and focus on AIPAC, the ZOA and the groups that I, cheapest viagra in the world, as Jew, also despise, you might attract reasonable people to your arguments

Posted by: Teddy | March 06, Viagra sale, 2008 at 01:08 PM

5-{A second provocation by "Cogit8"} Teddy, I regret that you limited your critique to just a few of my words, because I'm talking about a much larger issue (its the same issue that Phil is pondering also, and that is the question of Jewish culpability in the disaster which is Iraq).

If the Dreyfus Affair can be called "one of the greatest iniquities of the last century" and it only concerned one individual, price of viagra, pray tell what will Iraq and Lebanon be called some day. In addition, what will the ethnic cleansing of over 700, Goedkope viagra apotheek, 000 Palestinians be called.

So yes, "J'Accuse!" is where I'm coming from, and I accuse "most of 'your people'" of having committed or supported major war-crimes against humanity, ordering viagra online without prescription.

Posted by: cogit8 | March 06, 2008 at 10:43 PM

6 {Teddy's award- winning response} The Dreyfus Affair was your entry in the compare-whose-pain-is-greater debate, not mine.

You have a Star Wars, Alabama AL Ala. , black and white vision of the conflict and, apparently, the universe. Illinois IL Ill. , I learned a long time ago that it is useless to try to explain the complexities and nuances of the ongoing tragedy to people like you. But just a few notes and then I need to return to the world where people understand there are two sides to most stories and neither has a monopoly on truth or goodness. Ordering viagra online without prescription, I don't believe Israel and its lobbyists were a decisive factor in the Bushies decision to get us into Iraq. But even if they were, what about the high percentage of American Jews who opposed the invasion and the higher percentage that turned agains the war. Are they part of the "people" who should be blamed for Iraq, buy viagra. Weren't American Jews prominent leaders of the anti-war movement (e.g., Leslie Cagan).

I don't believe what happened in 1948 (or the 30s) can be reduced to the single, Buy viagra online cheap, fashionable phrase of "ethnic cleansing," unless that phrase is applied to both sides of the conflict. There was a war between two national movements and atrocities were commmited by both sides, ordering viagra online without prescription. What do you think were the intentions of the Arab armies that invaded in '48. The entire area would have been Judenrein if they had gotten their way. But even if your Star Wars vision is correct, For viagra online, an entire "people" did not "support" ethnic cleansing. Most Jews who followed the conflict believed in the propaganda they were fed about why the Palestinians left. Ordering viagra online without prescription, Only in the last few decades have the revisionist historians showed that there was another side of the story. You can't blame an entire "people" for supporting ethnic cleansing if they did not believe that is what happened.

For that matter, even if you think the Zionists were the scum of the earth from the very start, realize that they were a minority movement among Jews around the world even in the early 1930s. An entire "people" did not support them. For most Jews. the need for the Jewish homeland only sunk during the Second World and its immediate aftermath, ordering viagra online without prescription.

As for Lebanon and Gaza, I am outraged at the passivity of most American Jewish organizations in the face of Israel's disproportionate response. But one of the reasons for the passivity among moderate Jews who are horrified by the deaths of Palestinian children is utter despair and hopelessness; they don't have a practical answer that will help both sides escape from this nightmare. So, as usual, those with the easy, extreme answers --targeted assasinations---win the day. That's no excuse. Ordering viagra online without prescription, I share your anger at what is happening and so do the organizations I support, like Brit Tzedek v'Shalom. So, where does that put me in your cartography of the Jewish people.

Posted by: Teddy | March 07, 2008 at 05:24 AM

Again, Teddy's answer won't make the mainstream Jewish establishment happy, because he feels no compulsion to defend what he believes to be indefensible. Some of what he says make me uncomfortable and is too harsh on the Zionists. But standard "hasbara" has no chance to succeed in that digital world. It gets rejected immediately. Teddy and his ilk do have a chance. Please send other nominations to dfleshler@yahoo.com.

Cheap Viagra Online Legally

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Richard Silverstein's Tikun Olam Cheap viagra online legally, notes that Israeli novelist A.B. Yehoshua called for removing the U.S. Goedkope viagra apotheek, ambassador to Israel and attacked America's Israel lobby. But he missed a few nuances. I might be the only one in the universe who cares about these nuances, Montana MT Mont. , as they touch upon some of the work I've tried to do over the years, Viagra without a prescription, but forgive the self-indulgence:

First, Richard S. quotes from a Y-net story:

In a scathing op-ed published in the Italian daily La Stampa, Israeli novelist A, cheap viagra online legally. B, kjøpe viagra online. Yehoshua said George W. Buy cheap viagra online, Bush should recall the US ambassador to Israel until the Jewish state dismantles all illegal outposts in the West Bank, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Sunday.

"If the American president would have really wanted Israel to disassemble the illegal outposts…he would have done better to stay in the White House…" Yehoshua wrote in response to Bush's recent visit to the Middle East, ordering viagra online without prescription. Cheap viagra online legally, "He should have recalled his ambassador to Tel Aviv (Richard Jones) for an indefinite period until the outposts were evacuated.

"I can guarantee you that had he acted in this manner, Comprar viagra baratos, Israel would have promptly dismantled the outposts, and the US administration would thus cement the faith of the Israelis and the Palestinians in the peace process," he said in the op-ed, order viagra online.

Yehoshua added that Israel was deceiving the international community into focusing solely on the illegal outposts. Viagra generic, "Instead of dealing with (all) of the illegal settlements (in the West Bank), only the illegal outposts are being discussed – this legitimizes the status of (the other) settlements, in which 250, comprar viagra,000 Israelis reside, Cheap viagra online, " he said.

Richard S. then picks up his commentary, which treats this is a remarkable and new development:

First, köpa billiga viagra, it indicates a desperation on the part of the rational Zionist center-left. It is clear to them that no one in current Israeli politics has the will or interest to do the hard things that need to get done for there to be peace, cheap viagra online legally. Minnesota MN Minn. , Under those conditions, a dyed in the wool Zionist like Yehoshua is willing to give voice to heresy and call for direct U.S. interference in Israeli domestic politics, discount viagra.

Second, Cheap viagra online legally, the statement bespeaks a recognition among those same rational Zionists that now is the time for a settlement. This realization is accompanied by the conviction that losing this opportunity will be much worse than past lost opportunities because the stakes seem higher than they have ever been in terms of the violence that might be unleashed in the event of failure now.... Cheap viagra online legally, Interestingly, and not surprisingly, Ynet has omitted Yehoshua's direct criticism of the Israel lobby. JTA reports that Yehoshua also had this to say:

"Yehoshua further described all West Bank settlements as illegal and described the `Jewish lobby' as having `become a powerful tool of influence on Israel's behalf within the U.S, acquistare a buon mercato viagra. administration.'"

What is important here is that it's no longer Jimmy Carter or Walt-Mearsheimer attacking the Lobby. Vermont VT Vt. , It's now a mainstream Israeli figure like Yehoshua who, as a Zionist, might be seen to have a vested interest in supporting the work of the Lobby

Well, viagra, it's important but the novelty should not be exaggerated. Order viagra pills, Yehoshua's statement is noteworthy because his castigation of the lobby and calls for American intervention are so passionate and so public.

But mainstream, leftwing Zionists, including Labor Party leaders, have often asserted that the conventional Israel lobby doesn't represent Israel's true interests, cheap viagra online legally. Haaretz's Akiva Eldar and many other columnists have lambasted AIPAC for years. For that matter, viagra online kopen, let's not forget that PM Rabin himself took on AIPAC in some widely reported confrontations in the early 1990s. φτηνές φαρμακείο viagra, It was clear from all the reportage that one key reason was the perception that the lobby had been much too close to Likud and Greater Israel supporters, and would be an obstacle to the peace process. Rabin's people did not make any efforts to correct those stories, παραγγείλετε online viagra. Cheap viagra online legally, In 1993, Israel Policy Forum was founded with the close cooperation of Labor doves, who understood that the conventional Israel lobby could not enthusiastically sell peace talks with Arafat and the two-state solution to the American Jewish community.

Moreover, Order viagra, mainstream, left-of-center Israelis have often called for direct American intervention into Israel's affairs, especially since the collapse of Camp David II, Georgia GA Ga. . Former Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben Ami has written many times that bi-lateral talks won't work, Ordering viagra online legally, because the gaps between Israelis and Palestinians are too wide, and neither side is willing to stop taking steps that preclude a workable settlement. He has called for America and the international community to intervene --in a variety of ways-- to save Israel from itself. Over the years, I myself have ghostwritten and placed op-eds for a number of prominent Israelis (trust me on this one) who have expressed similar sentiments.

Yehoshua should be applauded (even though his comments were buried in La Stampa), as should Richard S, cheap viagra online legally. for bringing it to our attention. The more the American Jewish mainstream hears from Israelis who want the U.S. to give Israel some tough love, the better. But if they think it is an unprecedented development, they might not take it seriously. They should realize that Yehoshua is pushing the envelope a little farther, but it is not a new envelope.

Order Viagra Online Legally

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Order viagra online legally, Something seems to be brewing out there, something new. I've been doing Middle East peace work, on and off, since the mid-1980s, generic viagra. I have never heard so many people from so many different corners of America defying right-wingers (and ultra-left-wingers) on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and saying the same things at the same time. Kentucky KY Ky. , What do a distinguished Senator and Democratic presidential candidate, 80 evangelical Christians who love Israel, a coalition of major Muslim, Christian and Jewish religious leaders, αγοράζουν online viagra, some Arab American groups and the pro-Israel left have in common. In the last month, Acheter viagra bon marché, they have all called for the U.S. to actively pursue a two-state solution and they have spoken out--with varying degrees of specificity--against the occupation as well as Palestinian terrorism, order viagra online legally.

Item 1--Recently, under the media radar screen, Chris Dodd has been sending around a "Dear Secretary Rice" letter to his colleagues, Idaho ID . Reliable sources tell me AIPAC is unhappy about it. Not wanting to burn bridges with a Presidential candidate and important Senator, αγοράζουν φτηνά viagra, the group has not actively opposed it. But when people call AIPAC and ask about it, they are being told that the letter is (horror of horrors!) "pro-Palestinian." In fact, it is decidedly (also horror of horrors!) even-handed, comprar en línea viagra. Here is a summary from Brit Tzedek's website Order viagra online legally, , where you will find a link to the full text of the letter:

... On the Israeli side, the letter calls for a freeze on settlement construction, Florida FL Fla. , the dismantling of illegal outposts, and a reduction of roadblocks and checkpoints in the Palestinian territories. The letter notes the crucial significance that Israel “ease the living conditions of the Palestinian people as a symbol of its commitment to a final settlement.” In light of the Israeli government’s recently released plans to build 300 new homes in the East Jerusalem settlement of Har Homa as well as its threats to cut off fuel and electricity into Gaza, this letter could not be more timely, order viagra online without prescription.

The Dodd letter also reaffirms American support for Israel’s right to defend itself and calls on Palestinian President Abbas to continue to denounce all terror attacks and to recognize Israel’s right to exist. It further encourages Secretary Rice to strengthen the Abbas government by providing humanitarian and financial aid to the Palestinian Authority (a message echoing November’s Ackerman-Boustany letter in the House of Representatives).

It is possible now to put forward positions in Congress that would have gotten a Member's head handed to him not long ago, order viagra online legally. Wisconsin WI Wis. , Even if Dodd were one of the leaders in the Democratic presidential race and had more to lose, it seems reasonable to assume that he would have taken the same action. There is, a Hill insider tells me, cheapest viagra, "less terror" of calling for aggressive moves to stop settlements and remove checkpoints, as doing so does not necessarily mean the right wing hasbara brigade will target you or that AIPAC-influenced PACs and right wing Jewish individuals will pour money into your opponent's campaign. Cheap generic viagra, [Note that this source says less terror, as opposed to no terror.]

Item 2--While the right-wing maximalist Christian Zionists get most of the press, other evangelicals with equally passionate ties to their Holy Land but more conciliatory views are also organizing, according to a recent post by David Neff in the Christianity Today blog:

Over 80 evangelical leaders have signed a statement indicating their belief "that the way forward is for the Israelis and Palestinians to negotiate a fair, ostaa halvalla viagra, two-state solution."

These leaders—including Christian college and seminary presidents, denominational heads, Osta viagra, and other ministry leaders—pledge their "ongoing support for the security of Israel," and state that "unless the situation between Israel and Palestine improves quickly, the consequences will be devastating" for Israel. Palestinians with little economic opportunity "are increasingly sympathetic to radical solutions."

[A brief excerpt from the statement]:

We believe that the principles about justice taught so powerfully by the Hebrew prophets apply to all nations, buy viagra online without prescription, including the United States, Israel, Billige viagra apotek, and the Palestinians. Order viagra online legally, Therefore we are compelled to work for a fair, negotiated solution for both Israelis and Palestinians. We resolve to work diligently for a secure, enduring peace and a flourishing economy for the democratic State of Israel. We also resolve to work for a viable permanent, Arizona AZ Ariz. , democratic Palestinian State with a flourishing economy that offers economic opportunity to all its people. We believe that the way forward is for the Israelis and Palestinians to negotiate a fair, Viagra sale, two-state solution."

Now, that is not exactly bold language. But, as I understand it, kjøpe viagra, most of these people are not from the left wing of the evangelical movement (e.g., the Sojourners). For all I know, some of them might like Mike Huckabee, order viagra online legally. Farmacia viagra baratos, And the contrast between them and the "don't-yield-one-inch" fanatics like John Hagee could not be more stark, or more welcome.

Item 3--The National Interreligious Leadership Initiative for Peace in the Middle East, formed in 2003, viagra for sale, consists of major Jewish, Muslim and Christian religious leaders. Maryland MD Md. , Galvanized by the irrepressible Ronald Young, they came up with a policy statement in advance of the Annapolis peace talks and a similar one after the conference. Among other things, they call for U.S, viagra en ligne afin. Order viagra online legally, support for the "benchmark ideas developed by Israelis and Palestinians over the years in official and unofficial negotiations, and reflected in public documents like the People's Voice initiative and the Geneva Accords." These are heavy hitters, acknowledged denominational leaders, not just individual clergy signing ads in the New York Times. And they have found a way to unite not just over lofty and general goals but at least a few specific principles.

Item 4-- And then there is the American Task Force on Palestine, New Mexico NM N.Mex. , which I've noted before. This is a new and welcome phenomenon: Palestinian American two-staters who are seeking to find common political cause with the pro-Israel left, Churches for Middle East Peace and others.

None of this means that all of these disparate people have the capacity, New York NY N.Y. , right now, to coalesce into an effective, energized lobby for the rest of us. But it means that there is an unprecedented convergence of minds and bodies and spirits dedicated to goals that were once controversial and divisive, both in the Middle East and the U.S. That yields some hope for eventual, tangible changes in the American political landscape.

Buy Viagra Online

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

In a post Buy viagra online, that recounts an Israel Policy Forum dinner that I also attended (hat tip to Richard Witty), Philip Weiss describes his joy at discovering what has been available for years, waiting for him to encounter it: a community of American Jews who care about Israel, who consider themselves part of the Israel lobby in its broadest sense, who abhor the occupation as much as he does, and therefore want to press for the kind of active American diplomacy that will rescue both Palestinians and Israelis. Buy viagra overnight delivery, Among other things, Weiss declares his support for a 2-state solution after remaining agnostic about it, ordering viagra online. Louisiana LA , That, too, cheap viagra online, Virginia VA Va. , is heartwarming news for those of us who've been squabbling with American leftists who keep encouraging the unrealistic dream of a single bi-national state, and, viagra online stores, Buy viagra c.o.d., in doing so, prolong Palestinian suffering by keeping alive the delusion that somehow the Jewish state will vanish, North Dakota ND . Michigan MI Mich. , Some of these people, who congregate on Phil's blog, Jotta viagra verkossa, Wyoming WY Wyo. , are wont to pour out venom against anything and everything remotely connected to Israel and American Jewry, and in some cases resent and reject the very idea of a Jewish people, online viagra. Order viagra c.o.d., Here is Phil's holiday gift:

There was throughout the evening the strong feeling...that Yes there is an Israel lobby, and it is many of the people in this room, buy viagra cod, Cheapest viagra prices, and the time has come to take your foot off the breathing tube of the Palestinians. It was a wonderful evening because here was a strongly Jewish and Zionist audience but it was willing to hear from Arabs and Arabists, buy viagra online. There was no noxious whiff of stinking neoconservatism the whole night, For viagra online. Cheap viagra without prescription, God bless. There was also the strong sense that without the American Jewish community allowing Washington to become more independent, kopen goedkope viagra, Hawaii HI , this moment will be lost. Israelis and the Palestinians cannot do this on their own, acheter viagra discount, Köpa rabatterade viagra, they require muscling intervention... Buy viagra online, ...I have been to many Jewish leadership events where I am angered and saddened. At this one I was in tears, order viagra cod. Cheap viagra pills, What a glory to my community that it is capable of such recognitions. There was an atmosphere of worldliness and real leadership at the event, Rhode Island RI R.I. , Illinois IL Ill. , and a feeling that Jews know that they are powerful in American society, and that brings responsibility, not self-regard...

...I was converted to the two state solution, with an asterisk. I never imbibed the Zionist dream; and the dream..of maintaining a Jewish state in part of Eretz Israel...is not something I really care about, or that I think most Americans ought to care about...And yet the real dream that realistic Americans must seize now is an end to the cycle of violence, a dream of regional cooperation and interdependence, and this was the imperative of the IPF event, buy viagra online. Two states are a necessary step. Once the states are up and running, and the Palestinian doctors are working in Israeli hospitals and trucks of oranges are crossing the borders, and a road runs from Damascus to Jerusalem that all can drive on, idealists like myself will talk about a federated solution, but the IPF event was about leadership and opportunity, and let us celebrate the initiative.

Guess what, Phil. I also think that, eventually, a federated solution would make perfect sense. It used to be a respectable idea among the Zionists in Palestine. In the unlikely event that we ever arrive at the juncture you describe, I'll join you on the idealists' barricades. In the meantime, welcome home, my brother.

Ordering Viagra From Mexico

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Ordering viagra from mexico, Apologies for the recent lack of blogging activity. Too many work and family obligations, not enough hours in the day.

Last week, Buy viagra online without prescription, there was a dyspeptic attack on Americans for Peace Now by my friend Philip Weiss on his blog, MondoWeiss. (Check it out at http://www.philipweiss.org/mondoweiss/2007/11/foreign-affairs.html). It deserves a belated response.

In taking on a critique of Walt and Mearsheimer by Walter Russell Mead in Foreign Affairs, Weiss cites the following quote from Mead:

If everyone from AIPAC to Americans for Peace Now is part of the lobby, what, exactly, is the political agenda the lobby supports?...What is the relationship between the internal dynamics of this divided lobby and the politics and policies of both Israel and wider American society, ordering viagra from mexico.

"When it comes down to it, comprar en línea viagra, Mearsheimer and Walt do not seem to know who, exactly, belongs to this amoebic, Tennessee TN Tenn. , engulfing blob they call the lobby and who does not. Take their own case. They describe themselves as pro-Israel, in that they believe in the state's right to exist..."

Then Weiss responds:

I myself have faulted Mearsheimer and Walt for not being more precise about the lobby's borders. But how easy is it to be precise in such uncharted territory, order viagra online. Ordering viagra from mexico, It's not. Mead himself makes a fascinating mistake in his indictment. He crows that W&M have included "everyone from AIPAC to Americans for Peace Now". In fact, Connecticut CT Conn. , APN is part of AIPAC. APN is a member of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, and all the members of the Conference of Presidents are on the AIPAC executive committee.

This is one of the marvels of the Israel lobby: it is a loose coalition, ordering viagra from mexico. When I learned as much earlier this year, I wondered why APN doesn't resign from AIPAC to protest AIPAC's role in the Iraq war, Rabatt kaufen viagra, or in the Syria Accountability Act, or in defending the settlements, or in supporting the Lebanon War. Purchase viagra, But APN doesn't resign. And no one starts an alternative lobby (and when George Soros notions it, the lobby suggests he was a collaborationist in Hungary during the Holocaust and Soros bows out).

This is modern Jewish history. Ordering viagra from mexico, My sense is that Jewish organizations, fearful for Israel's existence, tend to close rank when it comes to speaking to the U.S. government--and thereby allow the rightwing hardliners to be the court Jews, viagra kopen. This cultural/political/institutional mystery is not fully understood by Walt and Mearsheimer, no, but they have done a wonderful job under the circumstances."

So, Acheter viagra discount, is APN part of the cabal. Is it part of the problem. I'm on the APN Board. Am I part of the problem, ordering viagra from mexico. Weiss' argument echoes familiar accusations from the far left against slightly less radical Dems who attend their Party's convention and try to play a role in the drafting of platforms. The same argument is made against anyone who insists on a seat at the power table and then stays there even when they disagree with most of the people at the table, where to buy viagra. Given this country's disastrous Middle East policies, this is an understandable sentiment.

But, Cheap viagra no prescription, like his heroes Walt and Mearsheimer, Weiss is a relatively young student of the American Jewish community, its organizational structures, and its mechanisms of influence. Ordering viagra from mexico, In this case, he doesn’t have the faintest idea of what he is talking about.

Having a seat in the back of the room in AIPAC has not prevented APN from criticizing Congress or the White House, order viagra online legally, or addressing the White House directly. The reason why APN exists is to ensure that the hardliners whom Weiss glibly calls “court Jews” are NOT the only voices. When the Israeli government expands settlements or refuses to remove settlement outposts or takes other steps that make matters worse, Kjøp Discount viagra, APN speaks out publicly as well privately to the State Dept.

Weiss wants American Jews to rise up and speak out to prevent the Bush Administration from launching a military attack on Iran. So do I, ordering viagra from mexico. APN agrees with me and has publicly broken with much of the American Jewish community by calling for engagement with Iran, with a combination of carrots and sticks. Check out all of APN’s statements over the years, pharmacy viagra. Much of the organization’s work has been devoted to counter-acting ideas and people Weiss does not like. But because it is somehow formally connected with AIPAC, he wants no part of it. Ordering viagra from mexico, This is short-sighted. Alaska AK , Weiss does not understand what AIPAC’s “Executive Board” is. Calling APN a “member” of the Executive Board makes it seem like the group is part of a very important decision-making body. That is not accurate. What follows may seem like a pedantic riff on AIPAC’s structure, but the devil is in these details:

Every group in the 50-member Presidents Conference has a seat on the Executive Board, Maryland MD Md. , as Weiss notes. Besides APN, other dovish groups at that table include Ameinu, the Religious Action Center and the Union of Reform Judaism, ordering viagra from mexico.

That sounds impressive, since in most not-for-profit groups, Ordering viagra online without prescription, the “Executive Board” is a small, decision-making body, the people who oversee the staff. The "Board of Directors" is generally much larger and has less influence. But the reverse is true in AIPAC’s case: the “Board of Directors” is much smaller and, generic viagra, along with the staff, has the real power.

It didn’t used to be that way. Ordering viagra from mexico, In the 1980s, AIPAC became much more of an autonomous entity that didn’t answer to the American Jewish community. Köpa viagra, Its leaders wanted AIPAC to answer to AIPAC. As a result, the clout of AIPAC's Executive Board –and the Jewish organizations on that board--was gradually and deliberately diminished. This was accomplished by expanding the Executive Board to include large numbers of individual, major donors to AIPAC, cheap viagra overnight delivery. They now make up the majority of the Executive Board, not the Jewish groups.

The main function of the AIPAC Executive Board is to vote on general policy prescriptions during their policy conferences, ordering viagra from mexico. Those broad policies sometimes do help to nudge AIPAC in one direction or another, Kaufen viagra, but their impact is minimal on the day-to-day operations. Members of the Board also get briefings (at least twice a year, I believe) in Washington on AIPAC’s lobbying strategies and priorities.

So APN, as a group, District of Columbia DC D.C. , has little say in what AIPAC does. But even if APN sits at only a few of the power tables, that at least gives it the opportunity to speak truth to power, Viagra generic, and to know what our ideological adversaries are up to. Ordering viagra from mexico, Think of it as the Zionist equivalent of Log Cabin Republicans.

As Mearsheimer and Walt note, when AIPAC has pushed for legislation meant to impose Draconian restrictions on aid to the Palestinian Authority, APN and a few other groups have fought and sometimes succeeded in eliminating at least some of the most odious provisions. For that to happen, Delaware DE Del. , an organization needs to be plugged in. Membership on the Exec. Board does help in that regard. There are many other examples, ordering viagra from mexico. Generic viagra, The only way for APN to “resign” from AIPAC’s Exec. Board is to leave the Conference of Presidents. There may come a time when it makes sense to leave both. That time has not come. There are a lot of reasons for maintaining at least some connections with the Jewish communal establishment.

In fact, Mearsheimer and Walt offer a few different prescriptions towards the end of their book. One of them is “Convincing groups within the lobby to support a different agenda…In practice, this development could involve strengthening more moderate forces that already exist –such as Israel Policy Forum or Americans for Peace Now—or by creating new pro-Israel groups that support different policies.” Either way, little is going to be accomplished unless the liberal wing of the organized Jewish community is mobilized. And nothing is going to be accomplished by taking cheap shots at groups like APN.

Buy Viagra Online

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Buy viagra online, Mearsheimer and Walt write that AIPAC is a "de facto agent of the Israeli government." In various parts of their book, they provide examples of the "Israel lobby's" ability to promote Israel's agenda in the halls of power. Kjøpe viagra online, But they do not seem to grasp a far more interesting, subtle point about AIPAC: it answers to AIPAC and supports AIPAC's agenda, Ohio OH , Cheap viagra pills, which does not always align with Israel's. An article in this week's Forward, cheap viagra from canada, For viagra online, Contradictory Signals From Israel and its Supporters on Saudi Arms Deal gives the latest example of conflicting legislative priorities:

As the Bush administration’s $20 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia heads for congressional debate, lawmakers are receiving contradictory signals from Israel and its supporters in the United States, Missouri MO Mo. . Viagra prices, Israel’s defense minister, Ehud Barak, Louisiana LA , Buy viagra no rx, told Congress last week that Israel does not oppose the deal and will not take a stand against it. At the same time, Illinois IL Ill. , Cheapest viagra prices, a letter backed by the pro-Israel lobby began circulating in the House of Representatives, demanding that the administration impose strict condition on how the Saudis will be allowed to use special bomb-guidance systems that are part of the sales deal, Kentucky KY Ky. .

...While the chief Israeli defense official was telling members of Congress that he sees no problem with the deal, Israel’s supporters in the House of Representatives began gathering signatures on a letter to the president, asking him to put restrictions and limitations on the Saudi arms deal, buy viagra online. Order viagra online cheap, The letter, which is being endorsed by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, South Carolina SC S.C. , Comprar viagra, focuses on the potential threat posed by the Joint Direct Attack Munitions, which is part of the deal, viagra no prescription. Viagra pedido en línea, (emphasis added)

AIPAC, in other words, Minnesota MN Minn. , Oklahoma OK Okla. , is opposing an Israeli policy. This has happened many times in the past, comprar en línea viagra. Order viagra online legally, In Yossi Beilin's book, "My Brother's Keeper, cheapest viagra prices, Tennessee TN Tenn. , " he describes AIPAC officials as acting like "frightened deer" when they were asked to support aid to the Palestinian authority in the 1990s. Buy viagra online, Several, more recent bills for Palestinian aid put much more stringent conditions on the financial assistance than the Sharon and Olmert governments wanted. In 1995, osta alennus viagra, Comprare viagra sconto, AIPAC worked closely with Bob Dole to push the Jerusalem Embassy Act, which embarassed Rabin at a time of delicate negotiations on the implementation of the Oslo accords.

AIPAC does do what Israel wants, much of the time. But it is hardly an "agent" of a foreign government. It's more like a staunch coalition ally which sometimes goes its own way. It supports an IDEA of Israel, a set of premises about Israel, and when the Israeli government disagrees, AIPAC will do what AIPAC wants to do, buy viagra online.

Some of that divergence has to do with the organization's hawkish tilt. But it is also due to something deeper, something about the culture of Washington and the kinds of people who want to --and need to--spend their professional lives nudging the American government to do one thing or another.

An ex-staff member of AIPAC has told me that some of his former colleagues don't really care very much about Israel, they never vacation there, they are consummate political players who could just as easily ply their trade on behalf of the textile industry or big Pharma. It's the win that counts, not the cause. I think that is unfair and exaggerated, but it does help to support a related claim that Washington insiders sometimes make: AIPAC is interested in getting political victories as a means of sustaining its own power and perpetuating itself. That is priority #1, not Israel.

Larry Cohler-Esses, a veteran reporter for Jewish weeklies, once said, "The early Zionists learned that they could help Israel by winning the Washington game. In the 1970s and '80s, the AIPAC people learned that they could win the Washington game by helping Israel."

That should be food for thought for the dual-loyalty theorists...

Purchase Viagra Online

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

Please check out my new screed in Huffington Post Purchase viagra online, , in which I find myself objecting to one (just one, I promise) of the accusations that are commonly hurled at Doug Feith and his fellow preemptive war fetishists. I spent a long time trying to figure out how to say what needed to be said, which is one reason why I haven't posted here in awhile. Comments would be welcome either here or at HuffPo, Indiana IN Ind. , where I assume 95% of the commentators will be furious at me.
-----------------------------------------

Jewish Neocons Are Dead Wrong, Viagra cheap, Not Disloyal

There are few Americans whose ideas offend me more than Douglas Feith, the former undersecretary of defense who played a major role in planning and promoting the invasion of Iraq. I joined demonstrations to try to stop that invasion and am appalled that the preemptive war fetishists now have their sites set on Iran. But I believe Feith, Cheney aide David Wurmser and other Jewish war planners have gotten a raw deal from those who accuse them of putting Israel's interests ahead of America's, purchase viagra online.

The dual loyalty accusation has become conventional wisdom in the anti-Israel neighborhoods of the blogosphere and has been given academic respectability by John Mearsheimer and Steven Walt, generic viagra. In their new book, as in their original essay, Connecticut CT Conn. , the two profs report that in 2002, "Ha'aretz columnist Akiva Eldar warned that Feith and [Richard] Perle 'are walking a fine line between their loyalty to American governments...and Israeli interests.'" They note that Iraq war chronicler George Packer believed that "`For Feith and Wurmser, the security of Israel was probably the prime mover'" when they planned the war.

Elsewhere, Idaho ID , Juan Cole once opined, "Having a Likudnik as the number three man in the Pentagon is a nightmare for American national security, Acheter viagra bon marché, since Feith could never be trusted to put U.S. interests over those of Ariel Sharon."

Those are very serious allegations, tantamount to accusing government officials of outright treason. Purchase viagra online, Whoever makes them should have incontrovertible evidence. What the accusers have is circumstantial and flimsy, order viagra online cheap. M&W note Feith's connections with "hardline" Israeli groups, his op-eds supporting Israeli settlers and the infamous paper, Generic viagra, "A Clean Break," which war-for-Israel theorists claim is their smoking gun.

Feith, Perle and Wurmser are said to have co-authored "A Clean Break" for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in 1997 [Feith claims Wurmser is the sole author], Rabatt kaufen viagra. It calls for Netanyahu to reject the Oslo process, get tough with Syria by launching surgical strikes in Lebanon, Ordering viagra online cheap, and support the Hashemites of Jordan in their power struggle with Syria by, among other things, helping them remove Saddam Hussein from power.

That grab-bag of Machiavellian fantasies certainly captures the spirit of adventurous preemption that characterized the Iraq war, purchase viagra online. So what does that prove, Ohio OH . Neocons favored the unapologetic use of military force and the dismantling of foreign governments in Nicaragua, Grenada, Om viagra online, and the Balkans, not just the Middle East. It's not surprising that some of them recommended the same approach to Netanyahu. That they eventually recommended it to G.W, cheapest viagra in the world. Purchase viagra online, Bush does not necessarily reveal anything about their loyalties or motivations. All it reveals is an obnoxious, wrong-headed worldview. Mississippi MS Miss. , If Venezuela had a lot more oil and Hugo Chavez were more provocative or tyrannical, they would want to depose him, too.

Recent, buy viagra from canada, impassioned chatter about dual loyalty and Mearsheimer and Walt's war-for-Israel theory has drowned out a far more important conversation about this ideology of preemptive militarism and interventionism. It gained powerful adherents right after 9/11, Acheter viagra discount, when Rumsfeld and Cheney decided to go after Saddam, in part because they wanted to send the message that the U.S. would not be content with attacking Afghanistan, purchase viagra online. They wanted terrorists and their paymasters to realize that the U.S. would strike its "enemies" anywhere and anytime it damned well pleased, Utah UT . That had nothing whatsoever to do with Israel; it had everything to do with American machismo.

Still, Order viagra online, reasonable people can and do disagree about the extent to which Israel or its American supporters also factored into the Bush administration's decision to wage war. Purchase viagra online, But it is unreasonable to accuse Feith and his pals of divided loyalties without tangible proof.

Last year, I contacted Feith to get his take on the accusations against him for a magazine article. "I confess to being a conservative, bestill viagra online," he said. "I have a conservative view of how to protect and preserve democracies. North Dakota ND , That affects my views of U.S. interests, British interests, Japan's interests and Israel's interests, purchase viagra online. There are problems inherent in the practice of democratic countries negotiating with anti-democratic entities. The parties to the negotiations differ from each other regarding goals, tactics and constraints, order viagra c.o.d.. This applies to all democratic countries, including Israel."

He added, Acheter viagra, "The only justification for going to war with Saddam was that he was a danger to the United States and our vital interests. The President decided that the risk of Saddam's making biological or eventually nuclear weapons available to terrorists was unacceptable, especially after 9/11."

That was a tragically wrong conclusion. Purchase viagra online, Did Feith and his colleagues also believe the war would benefit Israel. Of course, φτηνές φαρμακείο viagra. Because of that belief, did some of them have an extra edge of enthusiasm for the war. Comprar viagra baratos, Probably. But how can anyone who doesn't reside in Feith's mind assert with smug certainty that Israel was his first, second, fifth or tenth priority when he helped make the case for war, Oregon OR Ore. .

One intriguing judge of what was on his mind is Karen Kwiatkowski, a retired Colonel who worked at the Pentagon's Near East and South Asia desk from 2001 to 2003, purchase viagra online. She has written ferocious criticisms of the Iraq war that mention her discomfort at the "pro-Israel, anti-Arab" attitudes of political appointees in the Defense Department and their connections with the Israeli military. But, in an email interview, she called the dual loyalty charge "simplistic, not fact-based."

"The...preemptive war push is part of neo-conservatism, but not particular to those neoconservatives, like Doug Feith...who also happen to be Jewish, " she wrote. "These folks...made their political bones as anti-communists. The so-called Islamists are seen by neoconservatives as the new communism...Neoconservatives wish to see an 'End of Evil' in a big, loud, decisive bang. Purchase viagra online, We see a kind of predisposition for violent confrontation that isn't as much based on loyalty to Israel, but on something much closer to home."

To be sure, in some American neocons, that predisposition was also shaped in part by connections with hard-line Israelis who had a deep mistrust of Arabs and an abiding faith in military solutions to complex problems. In the 1980s, the dedication to Iron Israel, when combined with fierce anti-Communism and a reflexive contempt for anything advocated by the left, created a noxious mixture of ideas. Right-wing Israelis encouraged certain habits of mind in Americans who eventually joined the Bush Administration, a proclivity for shooting first and worrying about the cameras or the UN later.

Now, some American neocons want to inflict this credo of preemptive violence on Iran before Bush leaves office. It is their credo that makes them dangerous, not misplaced loyalties or a lack of commitment to the U.S.

Cheap Viagra No Rx

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Cheap viagra no rx, I have read the Mearsheimer and Walt book. They have answered some--although not all-- of my prayers, which were spelled out in my post on August 12th. The book is much more careful, more nuanced, Order viagra, more detailed and more convincing than their original paper, which was published in the Spring of 2006.

I wanted very much to like their original paper, but it contained too many questionable assertions, half-truths and unsupported or unqualified generalizations. This book still has problemmatic sections, viagra without prescription, but it must be taken more seriously. No doubt some in the organized Jewish community will lambaste them not just for their mistakes –and there are still many of those in the book—but for the act of writing it and skewering the conventional lobby, cheap viagra no rx. The rest of us ought to be absorbing what they have to say, taking it seriously, not blinking at truths that are incontrovertible and thinking very hard about their political and moral implications. Cheap viagra pills, They still exaggerate --sometimes dramatically-- “the Israel lobby’s” ability to get its way and influence the actual decisions that are made by actual Administrations in actual historical circumstances. They cling to the notion that Israel and its lobby were "the principle driving force behind the Bush Administration's decision to invade Iraq in 2003," and I believe that is not accurate. They are especially unfair to Clinton's Middle East peace team, for reasons that require much more space to explain. Cheap viagra no rx, They make other important arguments about the inner workings of AIPAC and the rest of the lobby that don't hold up. In the future, California CA Calif. , I will have more to say about the extent of the lobby’s power and take exception to other particulars in this book. But I don't see how anyone can dispute their most important, overarching conclusions, painful though they may be to many American Jews. Louisiana LA , e.g.:

Washington's reflexive support for Israel has fueled anti-Americanism throughout the Arab and Islamic world and undermined the U.S. image in many other countries as well. The lobby has made it difficult for U.S, cheap viagra no rx. leaders to pressure Israel, thereby prolonging the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This situation gives Islamic terrorists a powerful recruiting tool and contributes to the growth of Islamic radicalism.

Unlike the original paper, the book makes an effort to show that self-styled, Kjøp Discount viagra, pro-Israel, American Jewish organizations do not form anything close to a monolithic front. It notes that:

[While] AIPAC and the Conference of Presidents have tilted toward Likud and other hard-line parties in Israel and were skeptical about the Oslo process, a number of other, Missouri MO Mo. , smaller groups –such as Ameinu, Americans for Peace Now, Brit Tzedek v’ Shalom, Israel Policy Forum, Jewish Voices for Peace, Meretz USA and the Tikkun Community—strongly favor a two-state solution and believe Israel needs to make significant concessions in order to bring it about…

…Some of these organizations actively promote U.S, pharmacie viagra bon marché. engagement in the peace process and have been able to win some minor legislative victories…[but], such groups lack the financial resources and influence of AIPAC, the ADL, the ZOA or the Conference of Presidents, Viagra, whose right of center views are unfortunately taken by politicians, policy makers and the media to be the representative voice of American Jewry. For the moment…the major organizations in the lobby will continue to advocate policy positions at odds with many of the people in whose name they speak.

Cheap viagra no rx, That is, of course, true. It is a truth that has been one of the banes of my existence. It is also true and important to note that, as they put it, “even when the leaders and rank and file of important American Jewish organizations have serious reservations about Israeli policy, West Virginia WV W.Va. , they rarely call for the U.S. government to put significant pressure on the Israeli government.” That has been another, personal bane. Obviously, New Mexico NM N.Mex. , the underfunded Jewish peace camp has not provided a strong political counterweight to more hawkish, richer and noisier organizations. This state of affairs that has helped to constrain American policy makers from taking a more balanced approach to the conflict, an approach that would clearly be in America’s interest as well as Israel's, cheap viagra no rx.

Towards the end of the book, one of their recommendations is:

strengthening more moderate forces that already exist" [in the current Israel lobby] or...creating new, pro-Israel groups that support different policies. U.S, viagra online kopen. and Israel interests would also be advanced by wresting power away from hardliners who now control AIPAC, the Zionist Organization of America, the Conference of Presidents...Such efforts might also be strengthened by institutional reforms that would give the rank and file a greater voice in determining these organizations' policy prescriptions.

Finally, they insist in a number of places that they are "pro-Israel." They "believe that the history of the Jewish people and the norm of self-determination provides ample justification for a Jewish State." They are two-staters who reject the bi-national, Rhode Island RI R.I. , single-state option and the actual implementation of the Palestinian "right of return." And they want the U.S. to come Israel's aid if its survival is threatened. Cheap viagra no rx, In other words (sorry to disappoint you, hard lefties who want them to be your heros, and righties who want people like me to denounce them), they sometimes come across as...left wing Zionists. Or at least they appreciate left-wing Zionists, which amounts to the same thing.

I will offer one major quibble, for now, acquistare a buon mercato viagra, because it pertains to the actual tactics necessary to effect change in both the Jewish community and American foreign policy:

Mearsheimer and Walt exaggerate the extent to which people in my camp and other American Jews have been constrained from criticizing Israel in public or attacking the conventional Israel lobby when they disagree with it. They assert that "more sensible voices in the Jewish community will have to discard the taboo against public criticism of Israelis policies that are harmful to Israel and may even be harmful to Jews in the Diaspora." Elsewhere, they make the very familiar claim that there is a “norm against public criticism” of Israel within the Jewish community.

Now, Viagra generic, there are people who still believe there should be a “norm against public criticism,” but that norm has been violated so often, and so vociferously, in the last two decades that it can no longer be taken seriously as a predictor of the community’s behavior. It was shattered by the American Jewish right during Oslo, some of whom actively and openly lobbied against official Israeli policy in Washington, cheap viagra no rx. But there have also been many important precedents of vocal dissent against Israeli policies by Jews on the left, who have spoken out and somehow managed to survive as members of the organized community, goedkope viagra apotheek. These precedents offer some hope to those of us who agree that Israel as well as America need a different, more evenhanded U.S. approach to the conflict, and that more American Jews must make it clear that they support this kind of approach. Viagra discount, One example used by Mearsheimer and Walt to show “efforts to marginalize dissenting Jewish voices” is a recent vocal campaign by the Zionist Organization of America against the Union of Progressive Zionists. Cheap viagra no rx, The UPZ sponsored on-campus appearances of “Breaking the Silence,” a group of Israeli soldiers who told vivid stories of the brutal behavior exhibited by Israelis trying to enforce the occupation. That disturbed the ZOA and its leader Mort Klein, who "demanded that the group be expelled from the Israel on Campus Coalition, a network of pro-Israel groups that includes AIPAC and the ADL." They also note other voices of opposition.

Mearsheimer and Walt mention that “the ICC steering committee unanimously rejected the ZOA’s demand.” But they might not realize that some of the most vocal supporters of keeping the UPZ on campus reportedly included the reps of the Conference of Presidents and other mainstays of the lobby that supposedly wants to suppress opposition to Israeli policies.

The leaders of these mainstream groups apparently understand --or at least begrudgingly accept-- that the communal tent needs to be big enough to include Israelis and American Jews who are mortified by the moral costs of the occupation and willing to say so, Arkansas AR Ark. , publicly. The fact that Mort Klein --and one Orthodox Jewish organization-- weighed in against this particular form of criticism hardly means their sentiments are representative of the Jewish community's.

Klein is also invoked in another example that, the authors assert, shows "how deep the opposition to open discussion runs": in 1996, he objected to the ADL's invitation to Tom Friedman to speak at their dinner, cheap viagra no rx. But the ADL let him speak. These and a few other examples they cite do not show there is a "norm" or a "taboo" against open discussion or criticism of Israeli policies. Vermont VT Vt. , They show that one set of Jews is arguing with another set of Jews.

Klein is a ferocious, skillful opponent of any conciliation or compromise with the Palestinians, but he has a relatively small following now and had a much smaller one in 1996. Cheap viagra no rx, To treat him as a representative of deep currents in the community is like treating Pat Robertson as a representative of mainstream Christians. More importantly, he himself has CONSTANTLY violated the “norm” by attacking Israeli policies that he considers to be too conciliatory, Maryland MD Md. . He openly disdains that norm.

Moreover, Mearsheimer and Walt ignore the way divisions over Israeli settlement policies and some military actions caused deep schisms among American Jews beginning in the 1980s. They spend a great deal of space on the [shameful] treatment of Breira, Köpa rabatterade viagra, a group of lefty Jews who were ostracized by the community in the 1970s. But times changed, cheap viagra no rx. Norms and paradigms of discourse gradually --VERY gradually-- began to shift once Begin was elected in '78.

Yes, when confronted with Begin and then Shamir, it was a minority of American Jews who protested publicly or otherwise went against the grain. But that minority did include some important mainstream leaders and organizations, Alaska AK , including the American Jewish Congress and the Union of American Hebrew Congregations (now called the Union of Reform Judaism). In times of emergency, the protests and disquiet spilled out of organizational board rooms and made it into mainstream media. Cheap viagra no rx, There was rarely an unbroken wall of support for –or passive acceptance of--Israeli policies or the positions of the conventional Israel lobby. Consider:

o--On May 5, Cheapest viagra online, 1990, Time Magazine ran an article entitled; “The agony over Israel: American Jews face a dilemma: how to criticize the Jewish state without seeming disloyal.” It asserted: “It has been an article of faith held by every government of Israel since the Jewish state was founded: no matter how much American Jews might disagree with Israeli policy, they could be counted on not to keep their criticisms public. No more. The American Jewish community has become a house divided –and sometimes loudly so—over Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians in the occupied territories and its reluctance to pursue a comprehensive settlement that finally might bring peace to the region.”

o--Two years before that (March 21, 1988), ordering viagra without prescription, a New York Times headline proclaimed “Shamir assails his U.S. Jewish critics.” The lead: “Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir lashed out yesterday against American Jews who have been pressing the United States government to force Israel to accept an international conference to resolve the Arab Israeli dispute.” Reporting on Shamir’s speech to a meeting of the Presidents Conference, the story noted that “Albert Vorspann, senior vice president of [the Union of] American Hebrew Congregations, North Carolina NC N.C. , argued that Israel could not always expect the `reflexive loyalty’ of American Jewry. He said it was “dangerous to imply that honest disagreements represent disloyalty.”

o--In February of that same year, Commentary devoted a whole issue to the mounting, passionate, very public protests of Israeli policies by American Jews, cheap viagra no rx. A cranky, unsigned introduction explained,“never perhaps has criticism of the state of Israel by American Jews been so open, so widespread, and so bitter as it is today.”

o--Six years before that, on July 15th, 1982, a New York Times headline read “Discord Among U.S. Jews over Israel Seems to Grow. ” The article, about American Jewish opposition to Israel’s continuing military assault on Lebanon, asserted “As in Israel itself, opponents of the policies of Prime Minister Begin and Defense Minister Ariel Sharon are beginning to engage in skirmishes through articles, statements, letters and newspaper advertisements."

There are many other examples. Of course there were not enough of us and these efforts were not politically consequential. Of course there are not enough of us now. And of course a good many attitudinal shifts will be necessary for American Jews in my camp to be an effective political opposition. But, while the taboo against taking on Israeli policies or pressing for active American diplomatic engagement is still out there, it is not nearly as strong as Mearsheimer and Walt seem to think.

The question remains, will enough silent, passive American Jewish liberals ever feel like there is a sufficiently grave emergency to start making noise.
